TAIPEI, TAIWAN (June 20, 2024) – Indian tennis star Shrivalli Rashmikaa Bhamidipaty was forced to retire from the second round of the ITF W35 event in Taipei due to a toe nail injury sustained in a laundromat accident.

Bhamidipaty, ranked No. 3 in India, defeated WTA World No. 492 Rina Saigo of Japan 7-5, 6-2 in the opening round. However, she was forced to retire at 0-6 in the second round against Lizette Cabrera of Australia after slipping and injuring her toe nail at the laundromat, as reported by Professor R. Jayakrishnan from the University of California Irvine on www.sports-india.com.

The injury, while not serious, was painful enough to prevent her from continuing the match. Bhamidipaty is expected to make a full recovery and return to action in two weeks.
